About our Adhesives and Grout ADHESIVES · Weldbond Glue. The most popular adhesive for mosaics. Weldbond is a white glue that dries clear. It’s non-toxic, which makes it perfect for children’s projects. Weldbond is ready to use right from the bottle. In addition to using it as a bonding agent, you can use a mix of half-Weldbond and half-water to seal wood or terra cotta pots. To use Weldbond, be sure the tile and surface you plan to mosaic are clean. Remove all dirt, oil and rust. Weldbond becomes tacky in a short time and dries within an hour (time may vary a bit, depending on humidity and temperature). Excess glue can be cleaned up with water while still white. When the glue is clear, Weldbond is cured. According to the manufacturer, the bond becomes stronger over time. Weldbond is recommended for bonding wood to metal, glass to glass, ceramic or porcelain to wood. · Mosaic Mercantile adhesive is water based and dries clear. It’s NOT non-toxic so we don’t recommend it for children’s projects. Use Weldbond instead. Mosaic Mercantile adhesive does dry clearer than Weldbond, so it’s better for glass or glass-on-glass projects, such as votives. Mosaic Mercantile recommends this adhesive for indoor projects only! · Clear Liquid Nails for Small Projects. Silicone adhesive that’s great for glass-on-glass projects, such as votives. Also good for outdoor projects. Clear Liquid Nails is waterproof and permanent. The manufacturer recommends it for use with wood, metal, concrete, porcelain and ceramics. It is NOT recommended for use with marble or granite, as it may stain the material. A 4 oz. tube contains enough Liquid Nails to run a 1/8” bead for 45 lineal feet. GROUT We carry sanded grout, which is recommended for grout joints 1/8” or wider. Unsanded grout is only for grout joints up to 1/8”. Unsanded grout will crack and pull away from the tile if the grout joint is any wider! Sanded grout is available in an array of colors. If you can’t find a ready-to-mix shade you like, you can use acrylic paint to tint the grout. To account for the liquid in the paint, add the paint BEFORE you add water to the grout and adjust the amount of water accordingly.
